Do I Really Want This?

I was sitting here talking with my little sister and nephew about what in the world I was going to write my blog about tonight.  We started talking about "stuff" since we did a thorough clean out of her garage today.   While we were talking I told her about my concept of purchasing......if you buy it you are responsible for it.

If you buy something you have to consume it, dust it, give it away, store it, or use it.  When you are buying any item, you need to ask yourself, do I really want to be responsible for this thing?
Being deliberate about your purchases is one of the main steps in the de-clutter process.

So, as you go through the next several weeks and months, pay attention to what you are buying.....do you really want to be responsible for the thing you are buying?

  1. I love those questions! What a terrific way of thinking about purchases. Not only will it cut down on clutter, but it's a money-saving tip, too.

  2. More people (in my family) should heed these tips!

  3. Great post and good way to think about purchases. I've done a LOT of decluttering and simplifying in my life during 2013 and I ask myself three questions:
    1. Does this serve my highest good?
    2. Have I used it in the last 18 months?
    3. If I were moving, is it worth packing and unpacking?

That really cleared things out for me!

  4. This will definitely come in handy as I begin going through my old house. I moved out in October, but I still haven't finished going through the stuff there. I really just didn't want to deal with it. But using these questions will make it extremely easy to decide if I want to continue being responsible for it or let someone else take over the responsibility.
